Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, I attended Thomas Jefferson High School, Virginia Commonwealth University, and The University of Richmond. I was always interested in art and took classes whenever possible.
In 1990 I began taking watercolor classes from Shelley Bechtel Shepherd at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, formerly the Hand Workshop. Paintings were displayed at The 2300 Club and accepted by the Virginia Watercolor Society Jurored Exhibitions in 1991 and 1992.
Several years ago I saw a Botanical Art Exhibit at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. The lovely paintings displayed prompted me to start taking classes there, and I have enjoyed doing so ever since.
Botanical artwork has been or will be exhibited at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, Tuckahoe Public Library and the Glen Allen Cultural Central in Richmond, Virginia, as well as Asbury Methodist Church in Harrisonburg, Williamsburg Public Library and Brookside Gardens School of Botanical Art or Illustration in Maryland.
I have learned a great deal about botany in studying and painting botanical subjects. My appreciation of the beauty of nature has been greatly enhanced by my work in botanical art.
